Add & Import Contacts
Add contacts one by one, import from a file, or pull them in from WhatsApp groups.
Add a single contact
- Go to Contacts → click Add Contact
- Enter their name and WhatsApp number (or email if you don't have a number)
- Optionally add company, tags, lifecycle stage, and any custom fields
- Click Save
SalesByte automatically checks if the number is active on WhatsApp when you save.
Phone is optional. You can create an email-only contact if you only have an email address. At least one of phone or email is required.
Duplicate contacts
If a contact with the same phone number (or email address) already exists, SalesByte will offer to merge the two contacts. You can choose which values to keep for each field — tags are always combined from both.
Import from a CSV file
Got a spreadsheet of contacts? Import them all at once.
- Go to Contacts → click ⋯ → Import Contacts
- Download the sample CSV to see the required format
- Fill in your contacts and upload the file
- Map each column to the right field (including custom fields)
- SalesByte imports everyone
Supported columns: Name, Phone, Email, Company, Tags, Status, Lifecycle Stage, and any custom fields your workspace has defined.
Country code picker
When you map the Phone column, a default country code picker appears. This prevents 10-digit numbers from being misread as another country's format. Defaults to India (+91). Common options: UAE (+971), US (+1), UK (+44), Singapore (+65).
Phone numbers should include the country code. For India, use +91 followed by the 10-digit number. Example: +919876543210. If your CSV has bare 10-digit numbers, set the default country code so they are correctly formatted.
Re-importing contacts
If you re-import a CSV for contacts that already exist, their data is updated. The Date Added filter shows when a contact was first created — re-importing an existing contact does not change their creation date.
Import from WhatsApp Groups
If your contacts are already in a WhatsApp group, you can import them directly.
- Go to Contacts → click ⋯ → Import from WhatsApp Group
- Pick the group from the list
- Select which members to import (or import all)
- SalesByte creates contacts for everyone and tags them with the group name
You need a connected Personal WhatsApp number to import from groups.
Contacts added automatically
When someone messages you on WhatsApp for the first time, SalesByte creates a contact for them automatically. You'll see them in your inbox and in the Contacts list.
